About Rame Heritage
This website was created in an endeavour to ensure that its past history of Rame Peninsula is not forgotten. Includes hundreds of old photographs and other memorabilia of Cawsand, Kingsand, Millbrook and surrounding towns and villages.
Grateful thanks are given to all those who have contributed to this website in particular Colyn Thomas who supplied much of the early material he painstakingly collected over a 45 year period and without whom this website would probably not have happened. Also to Steve Johnson www.cyberheritage.co.uk for the Plymouth photos and providing inspiration. Also thanks to many of the ‘Local’ families who remain on the Rame Peninsula who helped put together this collection of photographs. Also to the late 8th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (Robert Edgcumbe) for access to his personal collection of photographs.
Increasing numbers of people seeking retirement or holiday homes in the parish have inflated house prices to a level which local young folk are unable to afford. This has resulted in a haemorrhage of young families from the Peninsula. It is hoped that those coming to live in this beautiful Rame Peninsula as well as existing locals will, through this website, get a better understanding of its history.
More material will be added in the coming weeks and months so be sure to visit again.
Please Help
If you have any material that would further grow the image colllection we would be delighted to hear from you. We would be especially grateful to borrow any photographic material or postcards that depict life on the Rame Peninsula in years gone by - the originals will be digitally scanned and safely returned.
